The Rat King Rises

Here lies our poor boys dreams One eyed strung out on kerosene Face so cold you can hardly tell Hes haunted by visions of possums from hell It wasn't always like this He was once a king Back in high-school they'd kiss his ring Back in high-school the kids would kneel Back in high-school he could tell what's real Back in high-school he was the star quarterback But that all changed when the rats attacked They clawed out his eye now he's a freak They clawed out his eye now his future looks bleak They took away his scholarship Now his only solace is getting ripped Now his face is covered in scars and pits Now his girl she is callin’ it quits Our poor boy can't get to sleep Every night you can hear him weep His mind it's starting to rot Says he's Plagued by parasitic thought Dread fills him head to feet When He hears her voice so sickening sweet Now he stays up for weeks on end Gasoline is his new best friend Now he stays up for weeks on end Gasoline is his new best friend Now he stays up for weeks on end Gasoline is his new best friend

*he's coming* When the rat king walks by None dare look him in his one good eye Followed by fleas and flies His body has ossified Everyone thought he died Listen to his sickening cries The rat king is incomplete He searches for something to eat Someone that's soft and sweet A horrid sludge does secrete From his glands like rotten meat If you listen you can hear his feet The rat king follows no rules no laws When they see him coming everyone withdraws Teeth rotted down to the jaw He is plagued by one tragic flaw He has no woman to gnaw The crows let out a sickening caw The rat king is mighty mean Hunting hoping to find a queen Hoping she's around fourteen He rips open his old canteen Starts huffing down gasoline When your quiet you can hear his scream The Rat King wants he takes His slimy tail slithers and snakes he spies a girl baking a cake Snatches her for his keepsake If you watch you can see the ground quake

Hes spent half his life in a blacked out haze Held up in his apartment been there for days He sits high upon his throne The stiff stained couch is his alone He savors her silenced pleas The cheap apartment festers with fleas Hes sniffing kerosene Hes huffing gasoline Hes whiffing turpentine His eyes roll back, deep in his head The queen sleeps in the freezer, chopped up dead That's when the room starts to spin That's when the paranoia sets in Gotta do something quick His face turns to sickly green Worried over evidence, he didn't clean Hes sniffing kerosene Hes huffing gasoline Hes whiffing turpentine Every car is a cop car, circling their prey Every lights been bugged, he likes the dark anyway Just then he spies the matchbook on the table He knows what he has to do, he knows that he is able The triggers been pulled, The spell has been cast He runs for the door, better make it there fast Hes sniffing kerosene Hes huffing gasoline Hes whiffing turpentine Smoke tastes bitter on his tongue Wheezing sounds coming from his lung Just then the room goes black He lands hard with a crack His whole house goes up in a blaze Last thing he heard was this melodic phrase

The sun sets on another hot day This desert is like a glue trap Home to scum vermin and crap The wind blows a vortex of dismay Hottest landfill in the U.S.A At night the corpses wake from their catnap Dregs living off the worlds scrap People born here are doomed to stay The Pied piper Plays Pretty pious pieces Proactively promoting Prématuré paranoia Pointlessly proactive The pied piper plays Pretty pious pieces Pointlessly promoting Painted pictures Prophicising prophecies Fear me Fear me Fear me Free me from this scatter Bloody And beaten Grey matter that inhibits me Free me Free me Free me The pied piper Pleas pointlessly Pointlessly Pointlessly She kills me Holy Holy Holy

about

My grandfather used to tell me that “something evil” lurked in the desert, that the land was cursed. Maybe it's because the Manson Family hid out on a ranch less than 2 hours away, or maybe it was the evil aura that brought him here. I'm not sure if I'd say this place is cursed, but I will say the longer you stay here the harder it becomes to escape, and that this place cultivates a certain type of person. That's what this story is about, it's a warning to anyone growing up caught in the deserts web, and eulogy to someone we have all seen, wearing a tattered sun bleached hoodie, and dark sunken eyes. This is someone you might've even met at the grocery store, on the street, at school, maybe you're related to them. Someone each of us could've become; had fate been a little less kind to us.
